GK: Caoimhin Kelleher, Liverpool
Caoimhin Kelleher recorded a clean sheet and an 81.7 shot-stopping grade in Liverpool’s 3-0 win against Bournemouth, ranking 3rd best among all GK’s in Gameweek 5. Replacing the injured Alisson, he saved all 6 shots he faced on target and completed 41 of his 47 passes, a reassuring performance for Arne Slot and Liverpool supporters.
LB: Diogo Dalot, Manchester United:
Dalot’s versatility has proven to be incredibly valuable for Manchester United as he once again filled in at left-back for United’s 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace. Dalot created 3 chances, recorded an 85.2 passing grade (2nd among all FB’s), and won 5/8 challenges faced.
CB: Ibrahima Konaté, Liverpool:
Ibrahima Konaté has cemented his place as a regular starter in the Liverpool lineup with a strong start to the season. Against Bournemouth, Konate won 6/7 of his aerial duels, but impressed most in possession. His 92.2 passing grade ranks 4th among all players in GW5, completing a record-breaking 25 line-breaking passes.
CB: Jan Paul van Hecke, Brighton & Hove Albion
Jan Paul Van Hecke has impressed this season, registering his third successive TOTW appearance. Once again Van Hecke was dominant in possession, registering a 91.3 passing grade (3rd among all CBs), completing 21 line-breaking passes, and creating 1 chance. He also won 6/8 aerial duels.
RB: Kieran Trippier, Newcastle United
Kieran Trippier was a bright spark in an otherwise disappointing performance vs. Fulham. Trippier registered three 70+ grades (81.4 passing, 72.0 crossing, and 72.0 defending dribbles) and also won every aerial duel (3/3) and 50/50 duel (2/2) faced.
CM: Youri Tielemans, Aston Villa
The Belgian continued his excellent start to the season with 3 grades above 80 and 3 chances created in Villa’s game at the weekend. He had an 85.4 crossing grade, an 82.0 passing grade, and an 84.5 tackle resistance grade as they beat Wolves 3-1. Those grades are very representative of his performance across the season so far. He is the second-best graded centre-midfielder in each of crosses, passes and tackle resistance.
CM: Moises Caicedo, Chelsea
Caicedo had four grades above 75 for his performance during Chelsea’s dominant win against West Ham. A 76.9 passing grade and 78.7 tackle resistance grade on the ball combined with an 83.0 tackling grade and an 83.6 defending dribbles grade made him one of the key contributors to their victory. After a stuttering start to his Chelsea career, he’s started to resemble the player they believed they had signed from Brighton.
CAM: James Maddison, Tottenham
Maddison continued his excellent start to the season against Brentford, recently rediscovering the form he had at the beginning of the Ange Postecoglou era at Spurs last year. He recorded a 95.2 passing grade with 3 chances created, and scored a goal to go with his 75.6 shooting grade and 81.1 tackle resistance grade.
LW: Harvey Barnes, Newcastle United
Harvey Barnes joins his teammate Kieran Trippier as the only bright spots from their 3-1 loss to Fulham. Barnes was 1 of 6 players to finish GW5 with four different grades over 70+ (72.5 crossing, 80.3 passing, 70.8 passing, and 79.2 tackle resistance). Barnes scored Newcastle’s only goal and created 2 chances to go alongside a very well-rounded performance.
RW: Mohamed Salah, Liverpool
Liverpool’s talisman finds himself in our TOTW for the first time this year after an outstanding performance against Bournemouth. Salah created 6 chances this week, tied for the most in week 5, completed 87% of his passes and received an 83.8 passing grade (5th among all Wingers and Attacking mids). Salah rounded out his performance with a shooting grade of 80.0 (5th among all Wingers and Attacking mids).
CF: Nicolas Jackson, Chelsea
Nicolas Jackson got back on the scoresheet this weekend at the London Stadium. Jackson finished week 5 with a shooting grade of 84.5 (1st among CF’s and 2nd amongst all players) after scoring 2 goals. First, a sublime finish between Areola’s legs to start the scoring on the day, and a second goal with the outside of his right foot to put Chelsea ahead 2-0 inside 20 minutes. Jackson was responsible for creating 2 chances as well, tied for the
most by any Chelsea player.
